FROM HERE TO HER Artist Collective was active between 2012-2017. This site is an archive of the larger projects we worked on together during that time. We continue to stay connected and in collaboration with each other, just in a less formal way. This experience led to more community, conversation and opportunity than we could’ve ever imagined. That impact continues to this day. Thanks so much for everyone who supported us over the years!
*********
FROM HERE TO HER Artist Collective is an alliance of women artists based in Milwaukee who share a strong belief in the power of art to create social change and to transform lives – both the life of the artist and the lives of people who are touched by their work. Through public art projects, educational workshops and community service, our mission is to make our city a healthier, more equitable place for women and girls.
We're best known for our annual public art projects that explore gendered social norms. These projects are meant to instigate critical thinking that leads to actual change. To achieve that, our art exhibitions and performances are paired with educational workshops, dialogues and even public health reports facilitated by community partners who are experts in the topic or modality we’re exploring. Our 2015 project, My Sister’s Story, was recognized by Senator Tammy Baldwin for the way it used creativity to promote gender equality.
We’ve always operated outside of traditional gallery settings in order to make our work more accessible to the community. And we’re very proud of the fact that all of our exhibitions, performances and projects are self-directed and organized — from curation and installation to event planning and promotion. It’s incredible what you can make happen with collective effort (and without institutional permission).
